Kiss of Darkness by Loribelle Hunt

Title: Kiss of Darkness
Author: Loribelle Hunt
Kindle Edition
Published: January 24th, 2011 by Carina Press
Read: January 10th, 2011
(Note: This book may not be appropriate for younger audiences as it contains many scenes of sensuality)
Synopsis: Winter, a hybrid, has spent her life at war. A group of humans who are part demon, the hybrids, along with the lupines and nightwalkers, have dedicated their lives to defeating demons and protecting humanity. Yet, despite their united cause, the three groups share an uneasy alliance.

When hybrid military compounds come under attack from demon insurgents, Winter has no choice but to turn to the lupines and nightwalkers for assistance. It's a partnership based on necessity and she has no intention of letting down her guard with either group.

Marcus, the nightwalker Lord, has other plans. The immediate attraction between him and Winter promises a passion he can't ignore. To claim her as his own, he'll not only have to fight the demons who seem hell-bent on destroying her, but her own misconceptions about him and the nightwalker race. It's a battle he refuses to lose. (from goodreads.com)

This one was a hard one for me. Overall, I would say I enjoyed the book, but I had some things that upset me (frustrated me).

I found the concept for the book super interesting. I mean, binding one's soul with that of a demon's is pretty cool. I think that's why I picked it up in the first place, there aren't a lot of books I've read about hybrids and such. So it was fun in that respect. I did like Winter. She was stubborn and strong and could fight and keep up with the rest of them. I'm always about females who can push to the front of the lines and keep their place there.

The hardship I had with this book came in the form of one Nightwalker/vampire. Yeah, he was sexy and downright scintillating, but I have a super hard time with possession and those who must posses their loved ones. I have a hard time with possession because I've been there and it sucks. And although I get the need of vampires and werewolves to be possessive of their mates, this book seemed to bring it in a kind of crazy dose. Like Marcus, the sexy vampire, wanted her submissive and tamed. At first it sounded like he wanted to be able to give her orders and her immediately obey like a little puppy. That bothered me.

I simply cannot stand orders being given, no matter how much someone may love or care about you. It's just not cool, to say the least. I will say this though, in the end, I think Marcus realizes that he won't be able to completely reign her in and he seems okay with it. Winter seems to calm down herself and want to be reigned in a little bit. I didn't believe it as a whole because no one turns around that fast, but it was believable to an extent.

Overall, the book had good pacing and action and I enjoyed different plot points. The writing was good even if I didn't enjoy some of the character traits. But, I will say that I really do want to read the sequel because I would like to find out what happens to some of the other characters. And, the book was definitely action packed and a fun read with demon hunts, war lords, sparring with werewolves and some steamy scenes.

Tempest's Legacy (Jane True No.3) by Nicole Peeler

Title: Tempest's Legacy (Jane True No.3)
Author: Nicole Peeler
Pages: 368
Published: January 1, 2011 by Orbit
ISBN: 9780316056601
Summary: After a peaceful hiatus at home in Rockabill, Jane True thinks that her worst problem is that she still throws like a girl - at least while throwing fireballs. Her peace of mind ends, however, when Anyan arrives one night with terrible news . . . news that will rock Jane's world to its very core.

After demanding to help investigate a series of gruesome attacks on females -- supernatural, halfling, and human -- Jane quickly finds herself forced to confront her darkest nightmares as well as her deepest desires.

And she's not sure which she finds more frightening. (from NetGalley.com)

I have three words for you all...Oh. My. Gosh. Yes, profound, I know, but this book was absolutely, positively freaking Amazing with a capital "A". All my dear readers, you know my love and complete unadulterated obsession with my dearest Jane True. As you also know that includes her wonderful consorts *clears throat*....namely a sexy hell hound...and if you don't, then you should. (Or you can remind yourself by checking out my review of book one HERE and book two HERE) Because I'm telling you, there is nothing like the deliciousness of Jane True the half selkie!

Each book so far has had it's own beauty, it's own lovely developing version of the heroin, Jane True. In book one, we see her realize her worth, in book two, we see her realize she can take care of herself, and in book three....well...we see her realize her strengths. And, I don't think the fights between her libido and her virtue will ever get old. Maybe because I can relate. Especially while reading this book can I relate. Although, I think I side with her libido when I say, can I ride a motorcycle with the Barghest?!

Mmmmm, yummy, the smexy Anyan Barghest. I mean, I currently feel like licking my lips over an over just at the thought of him. *grrrruff* Oh yeah, that is one hot piece of hell hound. Seriously, just sitting here in this chair, recalling the deliciousness of his keister. I think he is currently my favorite fictional boyfriend. I can hear my libido and virtue now:

Libido: Come on Jen, just lick him a bit. A little bit down the abs, maybe he'll throw you against a wall...

Virtue: Jen, don't do it. Think, you're married and well....he exists in Kindle format only...

Damn my virtue!

On a more literary note though, I do think that Peeler has created brilliant characters and using her miraculous author skills, has developed them into a lovely cast of awesomeness. Plus, her plot content was absolutely amazing and pulled me right in to the craziness that is Jane True. I just love the way that Peeler can write the story like she does with all the uniqueness and beauty inserted and all the annoying kornyness kept out. She makes you feel like you are right there, in the action with all of the characters. Up close and personal and amazingly done.

This third book in the series, if you haven't figured it out yet, was absolutely marvelous and wonderful all contained in 368 pages of yumminess. And, with an absolutely friggin' amazing plot that will swerve and careen you into a world of fantasy that you will never want to leave what else can you do but pick up your very own copy. I mean, what could be better than furry brownies, science gone awry, mage balls run amuck and the sexiest damn man/hell hound alive, you just can't go wrong.

"Everything 'pony' is better. Especially pony-style."(Trill the Kelpie)

I laid my head back down, squeezing my eyes shut. "ohmigod, are you talking about pony sex? 'Cause if you are, I think you may have ruined me for life."
I stood in front of my closet, completely at a loss. What do you pack for a vengeance quest? I didn't have time to rewatch my Tarantino, and from what I remembered, Uma's wardrobe wasn't going to work on me. Imagine yellow pleather on a girl who was half-seal rather than pure Viking. Notpretty.

...From there, our team would "bring the pain"...and hopefully rescue the hostages held inside the lab.

"I was with you right up until you said, 'Bring the pain.' I've only ever brought cookies, or the occasional casserole."

Anyan's big nose twitched. "Well, for your first time, you can just bring a minor irritant."

..."Nothing's going to happen, Jules. Can I call you Jules?"

"Only if I can slap you each and every time you do.".... (Jillian - a guy)

..."Did you take your sassy pills tonight, Jules?"

"Seriously, Jane. I will cut a bitch."

"Where did you even learn that expression? Have you been watching RuPaul's Drag Race again?"

Today I thought I would try something a bit different.
This book was soo good.
Yes, I finished it!

But instead of reviewing it today... That will come next week *wink*.
I'm going to provide with a handful of most amazing quotes.
Lori Brighton filled up a couple of pages in my trusty notebook.
It has been awhile since that has happened.
Today I will share my quote Treasures :)

It is only fair to start off with the First Line:
Considering the place was at least three hundred years old, she supposed it could have been worse.
Quotes:

How she wanted to take those damn golden curls and wrap them around her scrawny neck.

Hell, who was she kidding; not even Franksenstein would feel at home in this pub of horrors.

She was so tired of these odd replies that only brought up more questions.  It was like having a conversation with the Mad Hatter.

Ghosts, Witches, & Poltergeists? Oh my.

Death by high heels, how embarassing would that have been?

Cristian closed his eyes as he resisted the urge to turn, to step closer to her like a druggie looking for a fix.  His drug of choice?  Woman.

"Death to all," a voice growled.  "Well, that's just rude," she muttered, searching for the beast responsible, or at least some sort of weapon.

My favorite Quote:

Well, are you going to tell me or just sit there brooding like some romance novel hero?

Ok... I did not provide you with all of the quotes I wrote down but here is a fair amount of awesomness in Lori Brighton's form of goodness.

Thanks for Stopping by today!!

Rating: 4.5
Book Art: Cute... 4
Genre:  Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy, Adult

First Line:  It's not every day you see a ghost.

Review:

Jolie finds out that she simply is not what she thought she was.  How do you go from being a fortune teller to a person with the ability to see ghosts?  Ok, perhaps that would be fun for a little while.  I mean so many of us HUMANS want to be something other then what we are now.  Crazy.  But for Jolie things get a bit crazier, not only does she see ghosts but she is able to make the dead come back to life!  Wow!  Now those are some crazy super powers.  Someone needs to call Batman and tell him to hang up his cape.  Seriously, I love Batman!  Don't really do that.

Soon a tall dark handsome man comes to her psychic shop to sweep her off her feet hire her to help find out who killed the ghost.  Rand is a warlock who helps show Jolie that she is truly a witch, and boy, a powerful grandmommy of them to boot!  He also shows her that she can never go back to being a plain ol' human.  I mean who would want to?  Not I, said the Fairy!  However, Rand has this one rule that makes you grin because you know there will be some rule breaking somewhere, it is a paranormal romance after all!  Rand does not think that a boss should not mix business with pleasure with his employee.
Save a Tree – Read an e-book Button
Well, I'll be darn... let the rule breaking begin!  Ok, I will spare you from all of the lusting yummy hotness because I know you want to read that for yourself.  (Which I recommend you do!)  Another witch tries to claim Jolie for herself.  Which I did not see coming but was a great plot twist because our handsome stud, Rand, battle for his right to keep Jolie as an employee.  Wait!  He just wants to keep his employee?  There must be some magical labor laws.  Hmm... There is more!  He is also battling his growing feelings for Jolie.  *Ahh*  I told you there would be some rule breaking!

I did not have a problem getting into the book.  Although, I must admit that I was hoping for a bit more of a clean ending.  Perhaps, just more BANG!  Fear not! This is just the first in the series, we will learn more later on.  Even with the wanting more at the end, I was never bored throughout the book.  It was highly addictive.  Like the Dark Chocolate the Fairy Loves so much!  I hope HP Mallory keeps the wit and interesting characters coming.  This story was just as fun to read as her other book and would be just too hard to pick out which one I liked the most.

I am now a fan!

Could I just say that I was super depressed that I had to return this book to the library!! I wanted to go back and read it again just for all of its yummy goodness and steamy love scenes. *prrrr*

From the synopsis above we find out that this story is about a demon slayer and a demon all wrapped up into a cozy love/sex affair. Really, It's all quite juicy and delicious and it starts off with a bang (literally). Okay, maybe not in the very very beginning, but no matter, it is still quite delicious. It starts off in a demon hospital where a demon of any kind can go and get fairly treated. I know... interesting....

Now I always try to make my reviews spoiler free for all those who haven't read the book, so here it goes:

I absolutely loved and adored Eidolon who happens to be a Seminus demon which I guess is a form of a succubus. He just seems so sweet and kind and downright gruff. I picture him as being one of those guys who is bad but who can be good. Okay, that sounds funny, but I had this conversation with one of my sisters and he totally foots the bill there. Plus, he sounds sexy as hell so I wouldn't mind taking him up against a wall....a rough wall at that.
"I'll bet you can make a woman throw out all her toys." (Tayla to Eidolon)
Then we have Tayla. She is the main female lead and the demon slayer. It cracked me up that they keep referring to her as "The Buffy". I liked Tayla for the shear fact that she kicked ass and didn't take crap from anyone. However *clears throat *....that little problem she suffered through for most of her life....uuhhh...can we say THAT WOULD TOTALLY SUCK!!! (Those who have read this know what I mean... can we say pain for the V!)
"So,uh, where am I, exactly ? And what do you plan on doing with me ?"

"You're at Underworld General Hospital. As you can probably guess, we specialize in nonhuman medical care. Our location is secret, so don't ask."

"UGH ? Your hospital is called 'ugh' ? Oh, that's precious." (Tayla to Eidolon)

So, that is kinda the gist of it without going into further detail and ruining plot points. I will say this though, you can't go wrong with a crazy ass whipping, sweet fights, succubus' that cook and some interesting things going on making me really want my very own tail (that's right, I said that!!) you'll want to read this book as soon as possible!

Georgina Kincaid Series by Richelle Mead - A Series Review

So, I'd really like to apologize for our lack of reviews lately. It seems that I keep getting wrapped up in these excellent series and I just keep putting off my reviews. Again we're sorry, but at least some good book reading comes out of it *grins*.

One of my more recent series was the wonderful Georgina Kincaid Series by Richelle Mead. The basic story line is about a succubus who doesn't really want to be a succubus. Now if any of you are wondering what a succubus is, this happens to be my favorite part of this tale....it's a paranormal female (the male version is an incubus) who gets it's life energy by stealing that of human's. But, it's how they steal it that I love. They steal it through sex.

Okay, so I might be a demented soul, but still it's kind of funny to me in a totally jacked up sort of way.

Our main character Georgina Kincaid lives in Seattle and is surrounded with all sorts of other immortals including a couple vampires, an imp, an angel and a demon. Now, she also happens to have some high affection for humans which I guess isn't the norm for immortals. But Georgina isn't normal for a succubus.

Longing surged up within me. I wanted it. Oh God, I wanted it. I didn't want to hear Jerome chastise me for my "all lowlifes, all the time" seduction policy. I wanted to come home and tell someone about my day. I wanted to go out dancing on the weekends. I wanted to take vacations together. I wanted someone to hold me when I was upset, when the ups and downs of the world pushed me too far.
I wanted someone to love. (Georgina)

Now, I don't want to give too much about this series away, but I would say besides Georgina, who is like this strong, smart, sexy woman/immortal/sex goddess (who also provides us scenes of exhibitionism), my favorite characters are going to be Seth and Carter.

Now Seth is a mortal and happens to also be an author. Carter is an angel and although I didn't like him that much in the first book, I really ended up loving him in all the rest.

But, Seth, he is just such an amazing character if you think about it for awhile. I mean, his character is so wonderfully developed and he is so flawed that you can't help but love him for it. I mean, he just brings this reality to the books that makes the reader feel like they are really there experiencing everything with the characters. And Seth, I just love him. He seems super shmexy and at the same time smart and shy and kind. I love that about him.

"Well, that depends, I suppose. I heard someone once say that men dance the same way they have sex. So, if you want everyone here to think you're the kind of guy who just sits around and—"(Georgina)

He stood up. 'Let's dance." (Seth)

"I hope I redeemed myself with the whole dancing-sex comparison.” (Seth)

“I suppose there were a couple of notable similarities,” I observed, holding a straight face.

“A couple? What about attention to detail, heavy exertion, lots of sweat, and single-minded determinedness to get the job done and done well?”

“Mostly I was thinking you just don’t talk during sex.” Mean perhaps, but I couldn’t resist.

“Well, my mouth has better things to do.”

I swallowed, my own mouth dry. “Are we still talking about dancing?"

Heehee! Gotta love the man!

Anyway though, these books are just....FANTASTIC! I loved them and I just couldn't get enough of them. Mead has such a way with her characters and her story line. I just love the way it flows and how she makes me feel glorious things about her characters. I love how she can describe a scene perfectly without too many words and still get me to know exactly what I'm seeing. Anyone who hasn't read this series should give it a try, because with arch demons who look like John Cusack, hilarious games of Pictionary involving an angel, a metrosexual vampire and a story that crosses over centuries you will love it as much as I did!
"Wait,” he said. “That’s not a word.” (Seth)

I looked down to where, in a moment of desperation, I’d played zixic on a triple-word-score space.

“Uh, sure it is.”

“What’s it mean?”

“It’s sort of like…quixotic, but with more…”

“Bullshit?”

I laughed out loud. I’d never heard him swear before.

“More zeal. Hence the z.”

“Uh-huh. Use it in a sentence.”

“Um…’You are a zixic writer.’“

“I don’t believe this.”

“That you’re zixic?”

“That you’re trying to cheat at Scrabble.” He leaned back against my couch, shaking his head. “I mean, I was ready to accept the whole evil thing, but this is kind of extreme."

Series Rating: Scorching Desire

The last book in this series Succubus Revealed will be released September 2011 so add it to your calendars!

Mona Lisa Awakening By Sunny - Book Review

By:
Sunny
Publisher: Berkley Trade, 2006
Pages: 288, Paperback
Read: November 2009
Genre: Erotica, Paranormal Romance, Adult Romance

First Line:
Sickness and death was in the air - women crying, men cursing, unwashed bodies.

Review:
Just to be clear... the synopsis on the back of the book really does not do this amazing Dark Erotic Paranormal Romance justice!

Lisa grew up in a New York City orphanage. She is a lonely si
ngle nurse who has some unique qualities to her. Lisa just has not been able to create a connection with any man she has come across. She thought they were all failed relationships. When she meets the hot yummy Gryphon in the hospital she is automatically pulled to him. I mean, whew, who would not be drawn to that piece of male flesh. Exquisite! Soon, he helps her realize that she is apart of a world she would never have dreamed about. However, Lisa does seem to accept her new heritage rather easily. If I was told that I was from an ancient race from the moon I might sputter and hit the brakes for a moment. This small problem is just that, small and inconsequential.

I must say that this author packs a punch in such a tiny package! Shifters, vampires, and demons. Hot sex, explicit scenes, sexual violence, a
nd did I mention some Smoking Hot Sex? Oh my! In a great Goodness way! *Licks Lips* Shapeshifter Gryphon and his skills will have you drooling from the moment you lay eyes on his description. *Majorly drooling* I would so take a huge bite out of this guy! Don't forget about all of the other men, just scrumptious. I should also mention that there is some sexual violence to be found.

Lisa does discover that she is a Monere Queen, the first ever mixed blood Queen, now dubbed Mona Lisa. (All queens take the title of Mona.) Mo
na Lisa is to take over the New Orleans territory. As she learns about the area, the heritage of the children of the moon, and the people under her we learn with her. It is so nice to be distributed information as you go instead of at once. She does find herself in many unlikely situations. Other Queens would like to get rid of her, I mean would love to get rid of her! The plot twists were many and fantastic at the same time.

The part that I am sure hooked many of readers
is when she finds out that offering her self to the men that protect her will heal them. Yup, she has a magical healing power that she passes to others through sex. The Magic Healing Box, if you will ;)

Sunny's writing style is something I have never enco
unter before. She is able to start painting a picture and allow you to fill it in with your own details. Sunny allows you to create a world of wonder in a way that does not require so many words. It is almost lyrical.

First Drop of Crimson by Jeaniene Frost - Book Review

Title: First Drop of Crimson (Night Huntress World No.1)

This particular book by Jeaniene Frost, for all those who don't know, is an offshoot of her Night Huntress series starring Cat and Bones. Now, I have been dying for more ever since I'd finished the 4th book in the series so I picked up this little baby from the library.

Might I say it was quite fabulous. The writing was very much as good as the Night Huntress series, albeit, with a lot more Spade. I do love Frost's writing because I always know what to expect. She delivers an interesting plot full of sexy vampires and hot scenes... well, not as hot as chapter 32 in the Night Huntress series, but still.

My very very favorite part of this particular book was Spade's shower seduction scene... poor Denise never had a chance! I mean, a perfectly chiseled body like his all covered in a cascading shower of water....I'm sweating just thinking of it.

I do love Frost's love scenes though. I know exactly what I'm getting from her books when I read them, which is why I read them. She gives me sexy vampires with plenty of hot sweaty yumminess in the bedroom. What could be better than that?!

You say that it is a spin off... Do we see Cat and Bones in this book/series? Can you tell me a bit more about that cascading shower? LOL! How did I miss this? *Checks Shelf* Yup, I do own this book. It will have to go to the top of the TBR list!

It is a spin off, and OH YES do we get to see Cat and Bones, but not til the end of the book and only a bit. This story is told from Spade and Denise's point of views and it is quite fascinating. I do love Spade I've decided.

The shower scene is one of my favorite. It's Spade alone, in the shower, in the middle of a Las Vegas hotel suite dripping with water. Denise is in the bed attempting to not be turned on. It's quite fabulous because we all know he is using his naught body to seduce her. It's just such a wonderful scene!

Book: Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate #1)
By:
Gail Carriger
Genre:
Steampunk, Paranormal Romance, Historical Fiction (1870's)
Location: London, England

Lord Conall Maccon is the male Alpha werewolf in the Parasol Protectorate series and also one of our favorite all time paranormal hotties. (I told Jen Soulless was a must read for this reason!) Forever frozen in time as a gorgeous hunk of man flesh, he gives a fresh take on the steampunk PNR. We've had many a fantasy about this sexy beast, and would love nothing more than to be Miss Alexia Tarabotti (parasol included) and be allowed to bed this….excellently proportioned…. Werewolf.(*grins* Books would never lie!)

So we have many an image of this man/wolf, and let’s just say that it involves a lot of muscle, lovely brown locks and a Scottish temper to boot. *gasps* Oh man, and his smile is lovely and has the ability to weaken the knees. (Is that too much for a girl to ask for?) we think that one of our favorite things about this werewolf is his inability to figure out why nobody has even taken up with Ms. Tarabotti. Geesh, she seams perfectly gorgeous and lovely and all her curves seem good to him, even if she seems quite intolerable personality wise. Or does she?

Well, all of us who have read Ms. Carriger’s work know that he loves her intolerable personality because it matches up with his own. He may be a gruff man, but he says it like it is and loves that his wife gives him a run for his money *figuratively speaking*.

One of our all time favorite scenes with Lord Maccon is the one where he kisses Alexia outside of that club to get her to shut up. And, he tells her so afterward. Lord Maccon, you naughty naughty boy, are your services of silence available at other locations? We’ve been told that we talk too much as well. Care to help?

Okay, maybe not, but a girl can dream right?! He is such an excellently written character who doesn’t try to hold back his woman… well, maybe he does just a little, but it’s not like she listens. He is sexy, hot, sweet and loving. He is strong and smart and knows how to give a girl some lovin’ with his whole self *starts sweating*. We really need to find ourselves a werewolf.

Now it is time of you to enjoy a few yummy photos of who we think would be the most delectable Lord Maccon. Nothing but the best for our masculine Lord! *licks lips*

"Mark my words, I will use something much, much stronger than smelling salts," came a growl in Miss Tarabotti's left ear. The voice was low, and tinged with a hint of Scotland. It would have caused Alexia to shiver and think primal monkey-thoughts about moons and running far and fast, if she'd had a soul. Instead it caused her to sigh in exasperation and sit up. ~ Soulless
Lord Conall Maccon, Earl of Woolsey, was yelling. Loudly. This was to be expected from Lord Maccon, who was generally a loud sort of gentleman – the ear-bleeding combination of lung capacity and a large barrel chest. ~ Changeless
He was not drunk in the halfhearted manner of most supernatural creatures, wherein twelve pints of bitter had finally turned the world slightly fuzzy. No, Lord Maccon was rip-roaring, tumble down, without a doubt, pickled beyond the gherkin. ~ Blameless
